2014 Ford Escape Among the Most Capable Crossovers Available
2014 Ford Escape Towing Capacity
One of the downsides to many of the smaller, crossover on the market is that they’re not able to provide much in terms of towing, which doesn’t make much sense considering the fact that they’re classified as SUVS. Thankfully the Ford Escape breaks from the mold and much like the other vehicles in the Ford lineup, the 2014 Ford Escape towing capacity is one of the best on the market.
When properly equipped, the 2014 Ford Escape is able to pull anything up to 3,500 pounds without a hitch—figuratively speaking, of course. The engine that provides the crossover SUV with the ability to haul such a great deal of weight is the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, which is made available in the higher-end Titanium trim of the Escape.
Surprisingly, the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine is not the largest of the Escape powertrain options. The crossover comes standard with a 2.5-liter Duratec four-cylinder, but as the engine found beneath the hood of the Titanium trim comes turbocharged, it’s able to produce more power than the larger Duratec engine. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine of the Escape SE trim also comes turbocharged to produce more power.
Despite the fact that the Duratec four-cylinder displaces more than the EcoBoost options, it’s not as capable. The engine produces 168 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque, which is impressive, but not quite as impressive as the 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of twist produced by the 2.0-liter EcoBoost option.
While the S trim of the Ford Escape is undoubtedly impressive, a growing number of residents in the Kansas City area continue to opt for the more advanced trims, as their engines are able to provide more versatile performances. Plus, as both of the engines in the higher-end trims come loaded with EcoBoost technology, they’re extremely fuel efficient as well.
