2016 Ford F-150 Sport Mode

When most people describe the new 2016 Ford F-150 they use words like capable, tough and smart. However, sporty driving dynamics is one characteristic that probably does not come to mind. The engineers at Ford are looking to change that by adding a 2016 Ford F-150 Sport Mode to America’s best-selling pickup truck. We will be telling you all about this exciting new feature in this blog post and we’ll also explain how it works.

Ford recently redesigned the Ford F-150 and Ford Mustang in the same year. Therefore, they were actually able to implement aspects of the new Mustang’s Sport Mode feature onto the new F-150, which is very exciting. The reduced weight and wide-variety of advanced powertrain options already gave the new Ford F-150 great performance. So it made sense to blend the Sport Mode feature from the Mustang into the Ford F-150 to improve the performance even more.

According to Ford Transmission Calibration Engineer, Karl Jungbluth, “Our team realized how well the new F-150 handled and responded to acceleration due to its reduced weight. So we decided we could adapt the sport mode capabilities of the six-speed automatic transmission from Mustang to F-150 to enhance the overall driving experience for truck customers.”

The Sport Mode feature works by effectively changing the frequency of the gearshifts. This allows the F-150 to stay in the “sweet spot” of the powerband and holds the lower gears longer to improve the overall performance and make for a more exciting driving experience.

Drivers can activate the Sport Mode on the 2016 Ford F-150 by simply pushing the tow/haul mode button twice. After that an yellow S will pop up in the lower right-hand portion of the tachometer that indicates the Sport Mode has been turned on.

Also, Sport Mode is standard on all 2016 Ford F-150 trim levels and can be used with both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive systems.
