6.7 Liter Power Stroke Diesel on the 2016 Ford Super Duty

2nd Generation 6.7 Liter Ford Powerstroke Diesel 1024x333

2nd Generation 6.7 Liter Ford PowerStroke Diesel

Ford brought their diesel engine production in-house back in 2011, which turned out to be one of the smartest moves that the blue oval automaker has made in years. These engines have proven to be far more durable and capable than anything that the competition has to offer. The second-generation 6.7 liter Ford PowerStroke diesel that is available on the Super Duty pickup trucks is an absolute powerhouse of an engine, and holds many best-in-class titles this year. We have had a lot of customers coming into our dealership to ask us questions about this impressive powertrain, so we are going to provide some insight into what makes this engine so special.

We truly believe that the available 6.7 liter PowerStroke is by far the best diesel engine of all time. It offers a best-in-class 440 horsepower rating and a best-in-class 860 pound-feet torque rating. Those best-in-class ratings mean that the PowerStroke is stronger, tougher and more capable than any competitor, which is very important to truck shoppers.

Since the torque and horsepower outputs for this engine are so high, Ford wanted to make sure it was tough enough to handle the massive amounts of power. Therefore, they designed it with the strongest, most advanced and most durable components that have ever gone into a diesel powertrain. Some of the advanced components on this powertrain include: a compacted graphite iron engine block, upgraded Garrett GT37 turbocharger, instant-start glow plugs, a high-pressure fuel injection system, and much more.

According to Ford Engineering Manager, Joel Beltramo, “There was really good durability and really good quality on the original engine. We’ve kept that but we’ve strengthened things and built it and tailored it for the medium-duty customer.” He went on to say, “No one is ever upset if it’s more durable than they expect.”
