Get Your Ford HomeLink or Car2U Systems Programmed
How to Program Ford HomeLink and Car2U Garage Door Openers
When you purchase a brand-new Ford, just about every system can be operated without any additional work, but there are a few different systems that simply cannot be setup at the factory or here at the dealership. Two such systems are HomeLink and Car2U, which allow you to get rid of the clunky garage door opener that weighs down your visor and never seems to stay up where you want it. Since these are features that cannot be done by us, we get a lot of questions from customers about how to program Ford HomeLink and Car2U garage door openers. For that reason we thought it would be helpful to put the steps right on the blog.
Both HomeLink and Car2U are universal garage door openers that are incorporated into the roof of the vehicle to eliminate the need for the unsightly remote. Both of the systems have three buttons to control other systems such as lights and your home security system, allowing you leave that pile of remotes at home, but seeing as most of our customers only use the system for their garage door, we will focus on how to program that. Don’t worry if you don’t have any automotive knowledge. The process is quite easy.
It is, however, recommended that you have another person to help you for some of the steps as some may require you to complete a range of steps in a short amount of time, and as you need to have access to your vehicle and the garage door opener, having an extra person ensures that you won’t miss the time deadline.
If you are programming your system for the first time, start off by holding down the outer two buttons on the HomeLink pad until the LED light starts to flash. Then, place your hand-held garage door remote one to three inches from the HomeLink device, keeping the indicator light in your sight. Use both hands to then hold down the “open” button on your hand-held remote and the button on the HomeLink pad that you want to control your garage door. If programmed correctly, the green light should be a constant, or steady.
If the unit has a rolling code, you may have to take some extra steps. Typing them out is a bit confusing, so if you need to program the system with that code, we suggest that you watch the video that we have put at the bottom of the post where you can see the steps being completed. It’s much easier to follow along. The rolling code setup is the one that requires two people, and it is also the same procedure used to setup the Car2U system.
To program the Ford Car2U system, start off by holding the two outside buttons until the LED lights flash. Then, have your helper press the “learn” button on your garage door opener. Once they hit that button, press and hold one of the three buttons that you want to have control the garage door movements. Hold it down until the LED light flashes and the garage door moves. When the door moves, release the button and when it stops, hit the button again to be sure that the programming was a success. Then you’re done.
Once again, programming the Ford HomeLink and Car2U system is not difficult, but if you are confused by the text instructions, you will be sure to appreciate that there are some helpful videos below. Both show step-by-step instructions on how to program the systems. If you have any questions, refer to your owner’s manual or give us a shout here at the dealership. We’re more than happy to help in any way that we can.
